Prompt #1 Questions:

Do you suffer from SAD?

I don’t no. Well not directly as in diagnosed, but l do believe that many people do suffer from a form of it and not specifically ‘Winter/Holiday Blues’ I may experience forms of it, but l am not a sufferer of S.A.D. However, my Suze is. She was diagnosed not long after Seasonal Affective Disorder became more widely recognised in the early years of the new millenium. [2007]

Other than the few examples I listed above, do you suffer from any additional symptoms of depression during seasonal changes, whether it be in the Winter or Summer?

I have been with Suze as a partner since 2013. When l first met her, she explained to me all about S.A.D – and in truth it didn’t really mean a great deal to me. I had experience with C.A.D.D [Cassandra Affective Deprivation Disorder] which shares very similiat traits with S.A.D but is mostly found within partners of those on the Autistic Spectrum.  In 2014/15 Suze suffered terribly with CADD which when joined with SAD actually nearly ended us as a couple in 2017.

Since we have been together and l have researched into SAD, to see how l can be better prepared to cope and help Suze cope with her disorder. As one ages, the disorder gets worse. Suze is 58 this year, in fact next week and over the last 6 years l have seen seen first hand all of the symptoms you make mention to and in relation to increased depression, l would have to say no not really, with the exception and all important inclusion of the ageing process – as in the older you get the shorter your tolerance gets with everything.

What Suze could tolerate more of in 2013/2014 as examples are far less than now in 2019.

What sort of treatment plan, if any, do you seek in order to cope from SAD?

Suze doesn’t have a recognised treatment plan as in from the doctors, but just follows relatively simple rules – although – she is lacking in getting these underway and only this morning, long before [ironically] seeing this weeks ‘working ‘ episode  l have had to gee her along with regards making sure she gets her ‘lightbox’ out of summer storage  ready for use. She needs to keep taking her Vit D tablets, but with everything going on and trying to increase her iron intake, she has been a bit tardy on that. But also Suze like me [and l don’t specifically need it], has been trying to get out and about as much as she can during the daylight hourse.  Previous years she used to travel to Australia for a few weeks during the months of November through to January. November and February are her worst months.

Medications, are they altered in any way during SAD?

No, she doesn’t take any medications.

Do you seek additional therapy during SAD?

No, Suze doesn’t take additional therapy aprt from 20 minutes daily on the lightbox.
