FOWC with Fandango — Envy “A Little Ditty ‘Bout Jack & Diane” (Short Story)

FOWC

Welcome to April 7, 2019, and to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC). It’s designed to fill the void after WordPress bailed on its daily one-word prompt.

Jack was left, jilted at the altar on a fine Autumn day.  Family and friends consoled him, and expressed to him he was better off without Diane, and everything would eventually be okay.

A couple of days had gone by while Jack cried.  He watched football, got drunk off beer and whiskey drowning his sorrows wishing he had never met Diane back in the Summer of ’69.

They were two American kids growing up in the heartland, Jack was going to be a big football star, while Diane was studying in college.  They agreed they’d be together for all eternity.

Jack’s phone bleeped the sound of his Facebook page chiming in.  His eyes blurred from a drunken stupor pulled up the message…  It was Diane on their honeymoon in Cancun smiling brightly and holding up a sign that read “I’m here you not.”

Tears welled his eyes as he stared at the photo. Jack was full of rage and envy as his blood boiled.  He thought of ways of getting back at Diane and her evil ways.

Jacks fingers texted back with rapid fire… “Life goes on, long after the thrill is gone.  Baby, I ain’t missing nothing, I’m off to the city to find my new and improved honey.”

Diane received the message back and slipped off the rock, sign and all fell into the waterfall.

Note: This is the non-fictional little ditty ’bout Jack and Diane. LOL! (Kidding Folks!)
