Speaking Out: Breaking the Stigma

Much of my life is spent in unfamiliar territory. I live daily with bipolar II disorder, anxiety, OCD and have a history of substance abuse.

Many may read this a think WHOA she’s a basket case. While at times I may be but much of the time I am not. Battling with one’s mind is no walk in the park. The character I have built because of my disorders are strength, resilience, and tenacity. I fall and I get up. I cry and I laugh. I am functional 80% of the time. I work a full-time job as well as a part-time job. Ironically I am a sober bartender. Everything about me is complex. My life. My thinking and my abilities.

For the most part, I can slide by as a “normal” human being but that isn’t to say that’s what I do. Nope, it isn’t. I am bipolar proud!
